The Maven Post

Marie Hamm has lived in the city of Los Angeles all her life, so she is no stranger to fashion. She went to school for Merchandise Marketing at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and recently left Barneys New York to pursue a career in Brand Marketing. Marie has a fresh face and personal style that is reminiscent of Abbey Lee. She has long blond locks that make her look like an ethereal muse. With a style that could rival that of a fashion model, Marie is sure to inspire any fashionista. Despite her fashion ambitions she and her husband are madly in love with each other and their dog, Helmut. Her blog is http://www.themavenpost.com.

Tell us about your personal style. Where do you get your inspiration?

My personal style is very much affected by my moods.  Its cool how you can channel different feelings, people, and places in the way you dress.  I get a lot of inspiration from traveling, runways, interesting people, and so forth.  The only real consistency is that I look to look put together.

What are staple pieces in your wardrobe? What are staple pieces you think every girl should have in their closet?

Staples pieces for me are great bags.  I love how a bag can elevate a look to another level.  I also love love love great jackets.  I think every girl should have a drool worthy bag in their closet!

Who is your fashion icon?

I love Kate Lanphear’s style. It’s edgy with just the right amount of class.

What inspired you to make a fashion blog?

I have always loved scrapbooks, photo albums, and things that let me remember times passed.  I wanted my blog to be a new age scrapbook; something I could look back on later to remissness.

What is the meaning behind your fashion blog name?

When I first came up with the name, The Maven Post, it was going to be a whole different kind a blog concept.  The idea was going to be a lot more general apposed to personal style.  I decided to go the route I did with the hopes of one day growing it into something bigger.  I wanted a name that could fulfill that vision down the road.

Which do you prefer blogspot or tumblr? And why?

I currently use blogspot.  I like it because it’s easy and not fussy.  I couldn’t tell you if I liked tumblr because I have never had one.

What is the future for your blog? Are you planning any fashion collaborations? Designing?

You will have to wait and see… ;)

What do you think separates you from other fashion bloggers?

I don’t think I have the answer to that question.  I feel as an insider to my blog, its hard to see what other people do because I’m to busy looking at all the ways it can be fixed and changed.  I hope an exceptional eye and style are what people enjoy most about The Maven Post but we all see things differently.

What are you looking to do in fashion? Is it a hobby or future career?

It is a career.  I have had some pretty amazing opportunities working with some very talented people.  Currently, I am a Marketing Director for a brand.  For the future, I would like to someday be a creative consultant and not work as much.  Wouldn’t we all like that?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I just want to be happy and healthy in life.  I want the things I do to have meaning to me. In five years, I hope to own a house or loft in Venice Beach, CA.  That is my ultimate goal.

What are your places to shop at?

I am head over heels for Barneys; there’s no place like it to me.  I also love Opening Ceremony, Shareen Vintage, and Harputs in San Francisco.

What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?

Well, I have a third degree black belt.  That’s pretty weird I think!  I spent 14 years of my life dedicated to martial arts. I guess it is because I was raised by a single father and have 3 brothers.

What’s your favorite color?

Purple.  All Shades!

What do you spend most on?

Bags, hands down. I typically splurge without thought if I am gaga for a bag.

What do you spend less on?

I would have to say pants or most bottoms.  I feel they can get a little redundant at times.  I feel like I can usually find what I am looking for on sale with enough time and perseverance.

What inspires you?

People.  I am very inspired by people watching, socializing, relationships, cultures… Anything related to humanity.

Tell us about where you live.

Los Angeles! I am very much inspired by the natural backdrops the city lends to each photo on my blog.  It is a diverse place full of life!  I love LA and can’t imagine calling any place else home.

Where would you like to visit/live in the future?

Paris, Barcelona, Prague, London, Milan… I have been to a couple of these places already but wouldn’t it be amazing to go every year?!

My husband lived in Spain for many years though he is a LA native and he talks about the city in such a way that is so alluring.

What can’t you live without?

My dog, Helmut. :) He is the apple of my eye, the song in my heart.  He does more for me than he will ever understand.
