Tahti Syrjala

Most people know Tahti Syrjala from LOOKBOOK.nu. She’s a fresh-faced redhead with wicked style and a fiery little blog on tumblr. Tahti’s style is much like a fashion mood ring where her looks match how she’s feeling. Sometimes her looks are very light and feminine and other times very dark and edgy. She is a chameleon of sorts and always keeps it interesting with her outfits. Her blog is http://blog.tahtisyrjala.com/. Tell us about your personal style. Where do you get your inspiration?

It’s just everyday. I usually put on an outfit that fits how I feel about inside and my outside surroundings, and it’s based on the kinds of activity I have to do. My color palette reflects my mood.

What are staple pieces in your wardrobe? What are staple pieces you think every girl should have in their closet?

I think everyone will be different, because his or her staple pieces will reflect what they feel most comfortable in and base an outfit around, so it will vary. For me, it’s shirts, jumpers, skirts and leggings, all in simple colors with very little to no pattern.

Who is your fashion icon?

I don’t have an icon, but a lot of my style I’ve taken from my mother. She’s incredibly stylish and never puts a wrong foot.

Who takes your pictures?

I do! With a camera and a tripod.

Which do you prefer blogspot or tumblr? And why?

I used to blog on blogspot, but I switched over to tumblr – I prefer it because it’s quicker to use and easier to post on and follow people. I enjoy the way the site works through likes and reblogs, and how it’s more images rather than text based, but has the option to write proper text posts if you wish.

What is the future for your blog? Are you planning any fashion collaborations? Designing?

I don’t have any major plans for my blog, I prefer to just coast along and enjoy the ride, and take what comes with it. I started blogging out of boredom, and I still mainly do it for that reason!

What do you think separates you from other fashion bloggers?

Probably the fact that I don’t really post about fashion — most large posts I do involve food and recipes rather than commentary on shows or trends, etc.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully happily working or studying something I enjoy.

What are your top places to shop at?

ASOS, Topshop, River Island.

What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?

I’m always at a loss to answer questions like these! What is deemed as interesting, and is it from my past, present or potential future? I’m an avid origami fan. Paper cranes are my signature favorite; all the closest people in my life have at least one made by me.

What’s your favorite color?

Pale, blue-toned lilac.

What do you spend most on?

Rent!

What do you spend less on?

Things that I don’t immediately need.

Tell us about where you live.

I live just outside Liverpool in Merseyside. It’s a place you’d have to visit to make your own mind up about – I think it has a certain raw-edged eclectic charm, and the entire area holds itself together by strings of insanity that come off in a good way. I think the accent wins me over the most, though – I moved over here because my boyfriend is a Scouser, and one of the first things I fell in love with was his voice. It’s a very melodic and unique accent.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about anything I like – there are no grey areas with me, I always either adore something or dislike it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I can get completely overworked and overexcited over things.

Where would you like to visit/live in the future?

England or Finland.

What can’t you live without?

Laughter and love.

Where do you buy your accessories?

Mainly from River Island – I almost always like their bags. ASOS and Topshop are always good stand-bys too.

Which trends do you like the most?

I really like the pencil skirt trend this season – I can’t get into it though, I’ve worn my skirts a certain length for so long, it would feel so strange! Maybe I’ll give it a go sometime. Faux fur heaven is invading most stores too, which I appreciate greatly.
