Shopping Trip: Monrovia

If you’re ever in sunny California, be sure to stop by boutiques that match your personal and intricate style. While on a summer vacation, my first stop was a contemporary women’s boutique called Jenni B. in Monrovia, California. After 3 steps in the door, the smell of tangerine and sweet nectar invaded my senses. It was a haven fit for a princess! Rowena, the beautiful store owner, who showed me some eclectic items in the store, warmly greeted me. If you’re into contemporary wear, this sanctuary is for you. The most unique thing about the pieces at this boutique is that they’re all hand-stitched to perfection and made by local designers in the area. Rowena’s advice to me was: “Don’t invest in stuff that’s necessarily trendy.” She showed me a beautiful coral silk kimono, with black hand-stitched embroidery on the sleeves. The V-neck was not too low or too high, but just right. Colors like coral and turquoise mesh with any skin color and are great for any season. Instead of purchasing pieces that are trendy and popular, it’s important to find individualistic pieces worth investing in even if it’s a couple more dollars. Jenni B. also carries accessories that are eco-friendly like a beautiful “save the panda” purse made from juice boxes from the Philippines sold for $39.00.

Another boutique I pleasantly stumbled upon was Allure, also located in Monrovia, California. This was surprisingly a gem in disguise. The purses in this boutique were inspired and handcrafted by Marvin, a local designer who also happens to design cocoons and trees made of yarn at the front of the boutique.  For $59.00, you can purchase your very own handcrafted owl bag. Made from pure cotton, it boasts strips of vintage-inspired fabric. This item is a great gift for anyone who is in love with bags of any shape or size! The boutique specializes in quality-made rompers with flower patterns and light-textured cotton that is breathable and incredibly stylish for outdoor adventures. The romper that really caught my attention was a breathtaking red beauty with images of white roses. Accessorizing this bold piece with gold jewelry, red heels, and blood-shot lipstick would scream “fierce!” If you’re looking for quality wardrobe pieces, definitely stop by Allure. It’s guaranteed to make your shopping experience.
