Remembering the Crazy Train: The Story of a Warlock

Charlie Sheen. His name alone turns heads and reminds us of a time when catch phrases ran wild and people were online waiting for the next big thing to happen. There was a moment when Charlie Sheen redefined the phrase “train wreck.” It’s hard to imagine that  half a year has passed since the event that was in every headline. Now that time has passed, and the dust has settled, it’s nice to take a look and remember one of Hollywood’s most interesting disasters.

For the few who haven’t kept up with the story, in late February, Sheen was interviewed by 20/20 after being fired from his hit television show Two and a Half Men. During this interview, Sheen went on an unusual rant and was recorded saying now famous catch phrases (e.g. “winning,” “tiger’s blood,” “rock star from mars”). It was a wonderful time to be a journalist, and an even better time to be a comedian.

This interview sparked the interest of many people, some of which include merchandisers. Sheen’s wild antics have shown themselves everywhere from t-shirts, music videos, and even comic books.

Time has passed, catch phrases have become old, and people have moved on. It was fun for most while it lasted but every story must come to an end. Several months after the 20/20 incident, a seemingly sober Sheen came back into the spotlight. Two of his biggest appearances included The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen. Strangely enough, the most surprising thing about the events were that there were no surprises at all.

Sheen seems to be a different person from what we saw in Spring. Almost like a Hollywood movie, this story had a beginning, a climax, and a conclusion. Unlike other train wrecks Sheen seems almost likable. Recent interviews have shown a lighthearted man. When asked if he still held a grudge against CBS, Sheen responded,  “I would have fired myself too.”

Only time will show if Sheen’s sudden change will last. As this arc comes to an end, the only thing that could be said is that it was an entertaining show and one that will live in pop culture history for quite a while. Love him or hate him, it’s hard to argue that Sheen isn’t an interesting person. We all laughed at Sheen’s craziness and he’d be the first one to admit he was out there. A lot of things can be said, but there is one thing we can all agree upon – Charlie Sheen is not a hypocrite.
