Porn To Save Animals?

Exploiting women has been an issue since women began standing up for themselves. But in this day and time women are constantly being exploited for various reasons. But do you draw the line when it comes to saving an animal? Well for PETA, there seem to be no lines.

PETA’s spokesperson Lindsey Rajt announced new plans that the organization will create a pornographic website to show a message about animal cruelty. They will be using what they (PETA) consider “tantalizing” photos AND videos. According to PETA, “the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals.”

Granted they are correct . . . people do in fact, react more when they see something racy. Obviously, the saying “sex sells” applies to any organization. But women are currently fighting for their rights as we speak. They are fighting for equality in the work force, they are attempting to gain more respect globally and they are fighting to keep their rights upon their bodies. So PETA doing this only takes women several steps back because honestly no one looks at the PETA photos for the men.

Although PETA has used adult film stars before such as Sasha Grey, Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson, their photos weren’t used in a pornographic attempt. PETA used their names as adult film stars but did not use their photos depicting their “jobs”.

Most people are all for saving an animal, but if you asked a woman off the street to pose in a pornographic setting, where the entire world will see and judge her in order to save an animal, chances are, her willingness would diminish. PETA is commended for their efforts but this time, they may be pushing a button that goes beyond morality and social impact.

As women we must stand together to stop movements such as these, which only perpetuate the disrespect and objectification of women, while furthering the abuse of human rights by exhorting and glamorizing the adult industries. These industries in turn facilitate problems such as human trafficking and sex slavery, which are silent growing epidemics that corrupt, destroy and kill men, women and children of all ages.
