Jojoba Oil and ALL the Goodness

Jojoba Oil and ALL the Goodness

For decades, jojoba oil has been used in countless beauty products, such as hair goods, moisturizers and even bath oils.  Contrary to its name and texture, jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax that is extracted from the seeds of the Jojoba plant. It can be stored for long periods of time, unlike other oils that have a short shelf life. Jojoba is very similar to the natural oil produced by our skin, making it ideal in assisting with dryness. It provides skin with added benefits of moisture without one’s oil glands producing excess and unnecessary oil.

There are many uses for jojoba oil, and the world of beauty is just one place in which you’ll find jojoba oil to be beneficial. It’s great for all skin types, even acne prone skin, as jojoba oil will not clog pores. It has anti-bacterial properties, which is great in fighting acne. Add a few drops to your moisturizer or to your facial cleanser, but be careful not to overdo it. The small addition of jojoba oil to your products will keep your skin moisturized and healthy, not just when used on the face but when used on the body. Adding some to body lotions or even to your bath will relax and make your skin feel silky and soft.

Not only is jojoba oil ideal for the skin, it’s great for the hair. Whether your hair is too dry or too greasy; the oil will assist in getting it under control. It deeply moisturizes the hair and scalp, which aids dryness. It will also help excess oil production, which aids the unwanted excess oil in the hair. Another great quality jojoba oil has when it comes to hair is that it prevents hair from thinning and falling out. Luxurious, thick, and moisturized hair is sought after by all, so give your hair a treat by adding a tablespoon of jojoba oil to your favorite shampoo or conditioner.

One of my favorite uses of Jojoba oil is that it’s a great makeup remover. Store bought makeup removers often contain alcohol and suck the moisture out of the skin. The eye area is delicate, and after a long night, it can be a pain to remove mascara with a product that doesn’t feel good. Jojoba is gentle and soothing around the eye area and will make the process seem like less of a chore. Removing makeup with a cotton ball soaked in some jojoba oil will give your skin extra moisture before you wash your face—definitely better than the alcohol based products that sting the skin!

As we approach constant drops in temperatures, our skin tends to dry out so now is a great time to start giving your body an extra boost of softness.  Jojoba oil is available in most organic food stores, as well as online at sites such as Amazon or Vitacost.
