Isabel Slone is a 21-year-old creative genius from Waterloo, Canada. Her blog Hipster Musings is unforgiving and her personal style is eccentric. She is clearly a feisty yet fashionable persona that sometimes uses fashion in a way that is not too serious. She’s been blogging since 2006 and is definitely not new to the game. She currently has started her own zine called Plant, which you can buy at her Etsy shop graceandeloquence. Her blog is http://hipstermusings.blogspot.com.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m Isabel! I’m 21 and an Internet enthusiast. Ever since I can remember I’ve been dressing up, and I use fashion as a way to project my personality to the outside world without having to speak a word.
Your personal style is effortless and cool. Where do you get your inspiration?
Well, I read a lot of fashion blogs. The most popular fashion blogs tend to be boring and homogenous, but there are so creative weirdo geniuses out there, and those are the blogs I like.
What are some key pieces that make up your wardrobe?
I only wear high-waisted pants. None of that midriff-bearing monkey business for me! I like to wear crop tops with high-waisted pants or skirts to show off my waist, but sometimes I wear dresses that look like potato sacks. What?! They’re comfortable!
What is your favorite color(s)?
My favorite color is green (I love trees!) but I like to wear black most of the time.
What is a “must have” you are lusting for?
1970s-style wooden wedges and platform shoes are an item I’d like to see enter my wardrobe, stat. I’m crazy about shoes. I just bought a pair of creepers, which I’ve been dying over for ages!
Who is your fashion icon?
I don’t have a fashion icon; I just make it up as I go along.
What inspired you to start a fashion blog?
I was 16, angry and wanted to have a voice – so I started a fashion blog. Now people actually listen to what I have to say -it’s crazy!
What do you think separates you from other fashion bloggers?
I’m weird and I don’t care. And I’m kind of funny, but it’s mostly unintentional. I really don’t take fashion that seriously.
What are you looking to do in fashion? Is it a hobby or future career?
Well, everyone has to get dressed in the morning! I’m a writer, and I like to write about fashion. We’ll see.
